Taskforce Mashup Competition Opens

mashupaustralia The Government 2.0 Taskforce has announced the official launch of the Mashup Australia contest. Entries will be open until 4pm Australian Eastern Standard Time on November 13, 2009. The Government 2.0 Taskforce is holding this contest to provide a practical demonstration of the benefits that open access to Australian public sector information (PSI) can provide.

The data made available for this contest can be used and mashed-up by any member of the public, no matter where they are in the world, consistent with the terms of the applicable (usually Creative Commons) license.

Team entries wil also be accepted.

To be eligible for prizes, solo entrants must be either an Australian resident or Australian citizen. For team entrants, at least one member of the team must be an Australian resident or Australian citizen. As the Taskforce points out: “It’s only fair – it is the MashupAustralia contest after all.”

The list of Government Departments providing datasets is impressive and three Mashup tools are already featured on the competition site. With an impressive judging panel, some excellent prizes and 37 days (now 35) to get entries in there this is a great opportunity to demonstrate the social and economic benefit of making government data sources readily available to the public.
