Our thoughts on cyber safety
The increasing pervasiveness of the Internet opens up new opportunities as well as presenting increased challenges.
One such challenge is the issue of cyber safety. In our submission to the Joint select Committee on cyber safety we have outlined our views and initiatives in this area. Among our recommendations include:
• Appointing a “Cyber Tzar,” located in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and a strategy that engages all elements of national power. This “Cyber Tzar” could also look into activities that assist children and young people in the online environment;
• Increased partnership opportunities with Australian law enforcement agencies, for example in bringing our PhotoDNA technology to Australia; and
• Promoting and educating parents regarding parental controls on their computers.
There is a lot being done, and a lot more that can be done.
What do you think?
