National Disability Services

This week National Disability Services held its CEO Forum in Canberra. National Disability Services is the peak national industry association for disability services, with members employing more than 40,000 staff across Australia, and a membership of 650 organisations.

Microsoft’s worldwide lead in accessibility, Rob Sinclair addressed the forum on the topic “Technology’s role in building solutions that are safer, accessible and easier to use,” as well as outlining accessibility features of IE8 and Windows 7.

While in Australia Rob also met with State and Federal government agencies, Professor Ron McCallum AO (2010 Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities), and Vision Australia. (Last week Microsoft Australia was awarded the Vision Australia Award (Corporate) in recognition of efforts to make information more accessible to people with a print disability).

In the 2008/09 financial year alone, Microsoft Australia donated more than $10 million software to the disability services sector, covering more than 220 organisations across Australia.
