Panel members Joe Hockey MP and Antony Green

Yesterday Microsoft hosted its inaugural Politics and Technology Forum which was held in Canberra and attended by 100 senior bureaucrats, advisers, academics, media and bloggers. The keynote address was delivered by Matt Bai, political writer for the New York Times magazine and was followed by two panel sessions focusing on Blogging, social networks, political movements and the media and Politics 2.0 – information technology and the future of political campaigning. A vibrant debate between participants took place initially with Annabel Crabb from the Sydney Morning Herald, Mark Textor from Crosby|Textor and Peter Black from the Queensland University of Technology. The second panel ensured lively discussion between the role of the politician and the ability to reach out to the electorate, this discussion took place between Senator Bartlett, Senator Lundy, Joe Hockey MP and the ABC’s election analyst Antony Green.

In the words of blogger Solidariti commenting on the Forum: It was the most inspiring event I have been to this year on the topic of politics and online engagement because we were able to hear so many different points of view in one morning on this important topic.”
