Earlier this month, Microsoft Australia was a proud signatory to the Australian Government’s Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment Project. The partnership with the Australian Government will create employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians. Minister for Employment Participation, Mr Brendan O’Connor said Microsoft had demonstrated its commitment by establishing partnerships with a diverse range of organisations to provide technology access and skills training to help all Australians achieve their full potential. “In signing up to the Corporate Leaders Project, Microsoft has committed not only to developing its own Indigenous recruitment and retention strategy, but also to using its extensive networks to promote and encourage Indigenous employment across Australia, continuing the good work they already do with Indigenous Australians,” Mr O’Connor said. |
“Microsoft can bring its wealth of knowledge, experience and leadership in working with communities to improve the long-term employment prospects for Indigenous Australians.”
Mr O’Connor said Microsoft has been working towards Indigenous employment opportunities for many years, including partnership with the Yarnteen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation on its Networking Community Development Employment Programme (CDEP) project in 2001.
With Microsoft's assistance, Yarnteen has provided computer access and connectivity to more than 50 CDEPs across Australia and created employment and community development opportunities for remote Indigenous communities.
