Expression Blend 2 SP1 Preview Released

Today, we have released a preview of Expression Blend 2 Service Pack 1 that allows you to create content for the release candidate of Silverlight 2. You can download the Service Pack from the following location:

blendicon Download Expression Blend 2 SP1 Preview

This Service Pack provides you with all of the functionality you had with our earlier Expression Blend 2.5 June 2008 Preview. Besides allowing you to create new projects for WPF, Silverlight 1, and Silverlight 2 RC, we are also exposing new platform functionality like Font Embedding / Subsetting for Silverlight 2 projects. More on this new functionality in future blog posts.

One thing to note, which is different from how we handled releases in the past, is that Expression Blend 2 SP1 Preview will install on top of Expression Blend 2. This will not be a side-by-side installation. This service pack is also an evolution of Expression Blend 2.5, so there will be no future Expression Blend 2.5 releases.

You can find more information on the FAQ page we have created for Expression Blend 2 / SP1.

Cheers!
Kirupa & the Expression Blend Team

Kevin - no, there won't be an update to Deep Zoom Composer because the Developer variant of Silverlight 2 RC is what has been released. Most end-users of Deep Zoom content will not be auto-updated to Silverlight 2 RC because they are running the end-user version of the runtime instead. What I will do is post the updated project templates that you can use to overwrite the existing templates found in [Program Files]MicrosoftDeep Zoom Composer I will try to have that done tonight or tomorrow at the latest :) Cheers! Hi, When I try to run the BlendV2SP1_en.exe it says me the soft can't be installed by Windows Installer because the program that must be corrected can't be found.. Of course I have Blend 2 installed on my machine (full retail Expression Suite) and of course before installing the new soft I unsinstalled blend 2.5 preview. Can the problem come from the language ? SP1 is "en" and my Blend 2 setup if French. If so, will you release a "fr" SP1 ? If not, what can I do :-( ??? Help will be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Olivier- We're only able to release the preview of Blend 2 SP1 for English installs. We will be releasing a patch for French when the final version is available (though the non-English languages will be delayed shortly after the English version is released). If you'd like to use the patch now, you can download and install the English trial version of Blend 2- since you've already licensed the French version then this will act the same as a fully-licensed version of Blend. Congratulations on this release! First: Thanks for making the right decision in terms of versioning. Allot of people got Expression Studio licenses through events like REIMX. Providing Silverlight 2 as a service pack is way cooler than having to buy a 2.5 upgrade. Also love the add-in support you've built into the 2.0 suite. When will you provide official information around this? I just released my Colorful Expression add-in, bringing you Adobe Kuler into Expression Studio. Code, binaries and screen shots up on http://www.codeplex.com/colorful Keep up the good work!

Hi Pete, Just wondering when Blend 2 SP1 will be available for other language versions?

Hi Bing- Localized versions of Blend will be arriving shortly. Because of the amount of work that goes into getting each language out we will be releasing each language as we complete it. You should see the first two arriving shortly with the rest following over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for your interest, please hold tight! Pete Blois PM, Expression Blend
