Steps to upgrade the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics when an in-place upgrade is not supported
Dynamics Connector is the Microsoft Solution to integrate Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics ERP data. If you are upgrading the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics you are not required to manually uninstall a previous version of Connector for Microsoft Dynamics. That process is completed automatically when you install the later version on the top.
Nevertheless, there are a few situations when a manual uninstall process and a new installation are required, for example when the upgrade of the Connector is needed to a much later version of the Connector than the current one or by upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 as an In-place Upgrade in this case is not supported (ref. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699716(v=crm.6).aspx )
We have put together for you the steps recommended for the Manual Upgrade process of the Connector for you to follow in such cases.
1. Create backups/ exports of:
a. your exiting Microsoft ERP database
b. your existing Microsoft Dynamics CRM database
c. your existing Connector MSDI database
d. the maps by exporting them from the Connector UI to files though Maps > Right click on each of the maps > Save Map to File
e. additional step to d) as additional backup: the Integration from the Connector UI through Right click on the current Integration > Save Integration to File
f. the folder of the Connector Installation (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\Microsoft Dynamics Adapter)
2. Go to Control Panel => Programs and Features to uninstall the Connector for Dynamics CRM
3. Go to the Program Files where the Connector is installed and remove the remaining folders
4. Go to the SQL Server instance hosting the connector MSDI database and remove it
5. Install the latest supported for your environment Connector version using the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics Installation Guide
6. Configure the Adapter Settings following the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics ERP configuration guide for your ERP system
7.1 Create a new Integration from Blank for the configured Adapters
8.1 Import the maps exported from step 1 d)
If you encounter any issues during the import of the exported maps (Step 8.1), you could use the following alternative steps instead of Step 7.1 And Step 8.1
7.2 Copy the Integration file which you have exported in step 1 e) to the Template folder of the Connector installation
8.2 Create a new integration from Template, selecting the file from Step 7.2)
9. Test if the maps were successfully imported and the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics is working as expected
