Yet another wacky SharePoint error message: Port Collision

When trying to access a SharePoint 2007 site, I was unable to access it. As part of my troubleshooting, I opened up IIS (7, the server was running Win Server 2008), and noticed that the site in question was stopped. Trying to start it gave the following error:

This Web Site Cannot Be Started. Another Web Site may be using same port

This was curious. Turned out to be that this site had previously had its bindings manually altered to support SSL, but then due to a server error, this WFE had been dropped and re-added to the farm using the SharePoint Configuration wizard. This step alters IIS settings, and ended up creating duplicate binding entries. To fix this, I removed the duplicate entry and restarted the site. Voila!
