Microsoft Game Camp to Motivate New York Students to Design New Software

USIC2011Logo

Being a lifelong gamer myself I just had to bring this up to all future game developers out there.  Really great opportunity!  Imagine Cup is holding two game design competitions in New York.  The first will be this coming weekend at St. Francis College

What is it?

Microsoft is offering an opportunity for approximately 60 local students to develop game designs for the Xbox and Windows Phone to participate in Microsoft’s Imagine Cup competition. Students will receive the resources to hone their design and development skills and network with others in the gaming industry. The game camp will also help students build their technology skills and prepare game submissions for the national and international Imagine Cup competitions.

Microsoft executives, local employees and participating students will be available for media interviews. Photo/video opportunities will be available to showcase participating students working with the technology to bring their gaming ideas to life.

What is the competition all about?

Check out the recent .Net Rocks Podcast episode that covered Imagine Cup.  Carl and Richard talk to Andrew Parsons and Alfred Thompson about getting students interested in programming. The conversation spans over use of computers in schools, teaching fundamental uses of computers, actual programming, and looking beyond. Andrew gets into Imagine Cup, a world-wide competition of students building software to change the world.
