Somehow I missed this, I didn't see an announcement about it, but a few months ago when NZ coverage was put in place (finally) it really wasn't that good.  Sure you could get driving directions, but the actual road maps were pretty bad.

I had a look today and found that things have vastly improved.  Local.live.com is now very cool.  It has all the roads around New Zealand.  I looked at my place and it even has the accessways between streets - very cool. 

On top of that, you can get driving directions between locations.  For example check out the driving directions from where I work to the Wellington Airport taking the shortest route - compare this to the quickest route (very cool).

It also has aerial imagery, but its not as low as it is in the US (see where I am as I type this for example - yup - in that big building).

Did I mention that it has a very cool API?  My mind is buzzing with all the ideas... Very cool.
