Entity Heath for one or more Management Servers displays Critical in the Operations Manager Console
Not a KB article yet, but on the way to becoming one. This affects the RTM product due to an override problem in the OpsMgr MP that will be fixed in the next MP release.
Problem
The overall Entity Heath for one or more Management Servers displays Critical in the Operations Manager Console. Upon opening the Health Explorer against an affected Management Server, the Monitors affecting the overall Entity Health are either:
Health Service Handle Count Threshold
Or
Health Service Private Bytes Threshold
or both of the above threshold monitors.
Cause
The default threshold values for both the Health Service Handle Count Threshold and Health Service Private Bytes Threshold for Management servers is configured too low by default.
It is recommended that an override be configured for both Monitors to apply to Management Servers.
Resolution
To apply an override for the monitors to only Management Servers use the following steps with the recommended new override threshold values:
Within the Operator Console select the Authoring space.
Within the Authoring window select the Monitors object beneath Authoring, Management Pack Objects
From the toolbar select View and then Scope, or alternatively press CTRL-M to display the Scope Management Pack Objects dialog.
Within the Scope Management Pack Objects dialog click the Clear All button if it is enabled
In the Look for text entry box type Health Service , or alternatively locate the Health Service target from the list of targets and check it, then click OK
In the Monitors window the target Health Service should not be displayed
Expand Health Service and then further expand Entity Health, then expand Performance, Health Service Performance to reveal the two monitors Health Service Handle Count Threshold and Health Service Private Bytes Threshold
Select Health Service Handle Count Threshold. Right click the mouse and select Overrides from the context menu of from the Override options select Override the Monitor and the option For a group
From the Select Object dialog select the group called Management Server Computer Group and click OK
From the Override properties dialog check the Override checkbox for the Parameter name Agent Performance Monitor Type - Threshold whose default value is 2000.
In the Override Setting cell change the value 2000 to 10000 (the value 10000 should be sufficient for most configurations)
Click OK.
Select the Monitor called Health Service Private Bytes Threshold
Right click the mouse and select Overrides from the context menu of from the Override options select Override the Monitor and the option For a group
