Override Explorer v3.3

The purpose of override explorer is to simplify understanding what overrides exist in a management group. It provides two views:

Type Based - This view shows types for that have rules/monitors/discoveries for which overrides were created.

Computer Based - This is in essence a resultant set of overrides that apply to a computer. You can also drill in and see what overrides are applied to various computer components such as OS, Databases, Websites.

Except of viewing the overrides, you can also do the following by right clicking on an override:

1 - Move the override to a different MP. This is usefull if in the past you saved overrides to the "Default Management pack"

2 - Change the target of the override. If you created an override to lets say disable a monitor for all SQL 2005 Databases and want to change it to only SQL 2005 Databases in a particular group, you can do it.

3 - Delete an override.

The link to the utility is at the bottom of this post.

I accidentally created an override on the wrong rule, and this helped me find which rule I placed it on quickly and delete it.  Thanks a lot!

Hi,I am trying to use OverrideExplorer.exe to move an override from one MP to another.  When I run the tool it works fine but it errors out when I try to move the override to a different MP.  When I complete the process the tool runs for about 20 seconds and then errors out with an Unhandled exception has occurred in your application error.  The error says "Failded to validate item" and then has the name of the override I am trying to move.  When I hit continue the tool exits and the override I was trying to move is deleted.Any ideas on what might be causing this? Thanks

I've been looking for any updates.  Is v3.3 still the latest ?  Really like the tool.  Any chance you would post source for Override Explorer and/or MPviewer, so those of us with an interest could learn more about how the programs do their "magic" ?

I personally dont have any problems with posting the source code but need to check with legal on this. If you have specific questions about how to implement some of the functionality that these tools have, please let me know.

I used this great tool to find some overrides I had created on a custom MP that used monitors in the old (converted) MP for Windows DHCP.  Now that there's a new DHCP MP I want to remove the old one before I install the new one (as per the documentation).  When it said my custom MP depended on the old DHCP MP, I used Override Explorer to find the overrides to blame.  And I deleted them.Unfortunately the console still won't let me delete the old MP and it says my custom MP depends on it but there's no more overrides.Any ideas?

The thing is that you can have other MP elements that create the dependency to the old DHCP MP. Can you send me the XML version of the unsealed MP that contains the dependencies and I can help you understand what else you need to remove.

Did you ever find the problem that Greg Brown mentioned above (8/10/08).  I have had the same problem for a long time and I keep checking to see if you have posted the fix yet.

Hi Boris,I was trying the tool and see that it shows almost all that I need, but it doesn't list the server name of systems affect on type based view. Do you think you can create a new column that show the server name? I really need to export the list of monitor that are affected by each override. If you can share the code, I can customize it as well :)Thank you,Gustavo Montesdioca - Dell Inc.
