My first impressions were that BCM 2010 is great. I was upgrading from 2007 and had written lots of custom code. However, I find that the custom code no longer works, the folder structure has been changed and I do not seem to be able to get at Accounts and Contacts through the Outlook object model. Do you plan to publish developer documentation?Anonymous

I clicked on the link and it looks great! I saw on the right hand side that it said only Office Professional Plus ships with BCM. It would be great if it came with Standard, though; that may be allow us to upgrade to 2010 sooner than expected. Please let us know.Anonymous

I recently installed Office Pro 2010, however it did not include BCM. It was an advance copy that Microsoft gave away via drawings at the recent CA World in Las Vegas held last week. Will there be an upgrade or add-on as this was supposed to be a fully functional (non beta) version of Office Professional 2010? When I upgraded, it completely disabled my 2007 version of BCM. Now I'm stuck with no apparent solution. I tried installing beta versions of 2010 pro plus and the 32bit version of BCM but this only leads to an incompatibility error when I attempt to install the 2010 version of BCM. HELP!! Can you point me to any steps that will help me to resolve the problem?Anonymous

@Brian <crickets> The company has been silent on this issue for weeks. The announcement on the 25th brings no answer about licensing for individuals. The company is only announcing availability to volume users and TechNet/Certified Partners. I was invited to the Office 201 RTM trial but have received no corresponding invitation to try BCM 2010. There is currently no legitimate availability for non-volume users. Some end-users have called Microsoft and been told that this product will be for Volume Licensing only, 5 seat minimum. There has been no official announcement or response from the BCM team blog about actual small business users being able to install the trial along with Office 2010, or to even own the product unless they meet an arbitrary seat number minimum.Anonymous

Is the decision to deny an upgrade path for existing BCM customers based on a cost-benefit analysis, or is it a marketing decision that assumes license groups under five are not valid businesses? I say this in consideration of a base of perhaps hundreds of thousands of users - like Gayle, but it could be anyone - who has developed the functionality of customizable contacts and business groups and has no access to volume licensing. It seems burdensome to ask them to migrate to another CRM and forfeit their existing investment, not only from a pr but from the end-user perspective. The real asset is not the software version, it's peoples business and lives and data. Individual users should not be treated differently than groups of five or larger and are part of the target market. Not to belabor the point ladies and gentlemen, but this could be a very unpleasant surprise unless you add it back into pro and or business versions, or at least make it available to 2007 users and make some statement on the issue. I have posted comments on the Office 2010 Facebook Page and LinkedIn Group regarding the lack of making BCM available to the individual user. MS says that, at present, BCM will only be available under the volume-licensing program. The individual user will either: a) remain on Office 2007 with BCM, or b) upgrade to Office 2010 and find a new CRM package from a third party. Neither is attractive and a way to cut out a niche market for the BCM product.Anonymous

Can some update me on the plans for the mobile version of BCM 2010? I mean a version that's compatible with Windows Mobile 6.5 of 6.5.x devices, like HTC Touch Pro 2 and HTC Touch HD2? I recall someone mentioning that BCM would only be available on a 5 seat minimum. If so, that's pretty dumb as Microsoft Dynamics is sold the same way. It stands to reason that BCM is the logical alternative for small businesses that do not require the slight improvement that Dynamics would provide. The information regarding BCM on MS's own website is fragmented and depending on where one looks, it appears that it's being shipped with professional as well as other VLK-linked versions. The lack of information relating to BCM 2010 has been very frustrating. And even more frustrating is the fact that we have finally been told that BCM is only available through volume licensing. As a small business owner, I've relied on BCM to track all my customer records and was looking forward to the additional customization that BCM 2010 is supposed to provide. Not making it available to individuals means that I will not be upgrading to Office 2010 -- which would have been a sure thing if BCM had been a part of the package. My hope is that it might be offered as a stand-alone program that individuals could add on to other Office 2010 programs at some point in the very near future. I am a small business owner, a one person office! I was greatly looking forward to BCM in Office 2010 and now it appears that I cannot get it and that no one at Microsoft has a clue about what's going on with it. I was on the phone for thirty minutes with a Microsoft support person and all he could do was direct me to a volume licensing page which gives me no clue if or where I can buy the product. I was all geeked out about Office 2010, but not having BCM absolutely kills any idea I had about upgrading. I'm a sole proprietor business that utilizes Outlook 2007 w/ BCM and I can't give that up. I also use Office Accounting 2009 and I could live without it integrating with BCM 2010, but not having BCM at all is a big factor for me not to shell out $500 to Microsoft this time around and stick with Office 2007 for as long as I can.Anonymous

I'm a bit frustrated. We are a small business. I was going to shell out my own commitment to buy the new version of office to get BCM. Now I would have to attempt to get approval to early adopt a minimum 5 user license which won't happen. That call comes from IT. Microsoft, from a sales perspective you have just alienated your customers and created a road block in your sales cycle. If you are getting away from the small business edition thats ok, but you should still make BCM available for professional users. Not only are you abandoning your existing loyal BCM users you are alienating your future ones. Who ever made the call to bundle BCM this way is really dropping the ball. Will you be considering offering this as a download like the 2007 version and allowing it to install on office professional?Anonymous

Hopefully the marketing team is reading the blog and will offer a stand-alone version of BCM 2010 or include it in a suite that is licensed to a single user. MINIMUM 5 LICENSES! Even Frontrange Goldmine got rid of the 5 user minimum. This is WRONG! BCM is suppose to be the direct competition to ACT and others in that realm. I have moved many clients over to BCM that are under the 5 user purchase commitment threshold. I was SO disgusted with Office Pro not including BCM, and THEN I find out I need to purchase volume licensing. Wow, what word means more than disgusted? My mind is blank with anger. In the 24 years I've been a "more or less" very dedicated Microsoft fan. But now, all I want to do is FOREVER NEVER buying anything Microsoft again. I am appalled that as a user of BCM for years and a purchaser of Office Home and Business 2010 that MS is withholding BCM for Outlook 2010. Do you seriously think that I will spend the money for a five seat license just to get BCM when I am a one-man office? Add me to the list of very disapointted customers that have been using the BCM since day one and now have to jump through MS hoops to upgarde to 2010. First MS Accounting Pro 2009 is discontinued which integrated well with the BCM and made my day to day operation easier (I still don't have any answers form MS whether the 2010 version of the BCM will integrate with this now discontinued accounting software). We are a small company and I have been a huge advocate for integrated solutions and religiously support solutions from MS but I'm starting to regret not adopting Sage Solutiions based on how MS is evolving and making it more difficult for small businesses to use there solutions.Anonymous

I hope you realize that the people running the volume license levels of office would NOT use BCM. Why did you bother with a 2010 version? No one is going to buy 5 licenses in a 1-2 user company. If it is not included in at least Office Professional 2010, don't bother with it at all as we can't buy it!! Do you not have any clue as to who your consumers are? First thanks for the wonderful job on updating BCM. I am exploring all the new features. First, I am not sure why Microsoft has been silent on BCM for individual’s licenses, but it was available when I did my upgrade and I was able to install it fine. Second. I do have a question for syncing with my mobile device. I had to hard reset (wipe) my mobile 6.1 smartphone and can no longer find the tools to sync with my mobile phone. Help did not seem to point me in the right direction either. I did go to File and Business Contact Manager and see the sync options, but it doesn’t seem to connect with my phone. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.Anonymous

how to manage e-mails which arrive in inbox? if inbox is being tracked e-mails are linked to the business contacts. This way inbox keeps accumulating e-mails. if e-mails are deleted from inbox then only a 4KB header is kept in history. before BCM I would keep e-mails in inbox till I have dealt with them and then move these to a PST folder or delete. I am in the same situation as many of you. A user of BCM from its inception. Now all my work, contacts, notes, phone logs, etc are not accessible from Office Pro 2007 (which i had to install to install 2010) because i cannot get a download of BCM 2010. I have sent dozens of emails and chats and phone calls to Microsoft over 2 weeks. No help at all. We need a good class action or state attorney general to look at this.Anonymous

I am a single user who has spent many nights and weekends building and working with BCM 2007. Maintaining project lists, manually syncing contacts between the BCM and standard contact list, syncing to the phone, etc. It seemed to run circles around coworkers with ACT. If it is only available as a volume licensed product, then Microsoft must think that the profit from a single version is not satisfactory. I will buy one license and from what I have read, I could probably find 4 other people willing to buy a copy. There...now Microsoft you have enough for a license. Let's move on and let people use the product.Anonymous

Let me register my deep disappointment with the fact that BCM 2010 is unavailable to the <5 license Microsoft customer. When I discovered BCM 2007 and Accounting Professional 2009, I'd found the perfect solution for my 3-person company I, too, made a substantive investment in building on BCM and even had some custom development done by a third party. When Accounting and BCM were disintegrated I was disappointed but felt I could give up the disconnect in favor of the additional power of BCM 2010. With the decision to provide BCM 2010 as volume license product I, like many others, now must rethink and redo my CRM configuration. Ken FlorianAnonymous

I had a Windows meltdown and I cannot access the BCM sql data base. I was working with a Dell tech and he tried everything to get the software to see it but it won't. Any ideas how to do this? He tried changing the name as well as changing the name to an old database it did recognize while changing the name of that old database at the same time, and neither worked. I have over 400 companies on that database. On another front I did also have the contact info transfered onto the Contacts file to use in my phone contacts. Is there any way to transfer that info into BCM?.Anonymous

I have been bounced around Microsoft call centres for days with no definitive answer regarding BCM 2010 for single users. I have built my business solely around BCM 2007 and now employ a second person but neither of us can use bcm 2010 because Microsoft will not sell less than 5 lisences ... how does a company get to to point where they need 5+ lisences if Microsoft reneig on their original product and cut us off ... As a loyal Microsoft customer, I have progressively upgraded my Office product. When I started my small business two years ago, I had several options, but decided to use MS Office 2007 Small Business. I even used the Accounting package that was included. Now, ofd course, that is not longer supported. But the reason for my complaint is that having spent hundreds of hours entering and refining data in my BCM 2007 software, I now find that I will be unable to upgrade to the 2010 version. The reason: My business isn't deemed 'big enough' by Microsoft. I dont need 5 copies of Office 2010, I only need one. I'm ready to spend the $500, but apparently mighty Microsoft isn't ready to take my cash. Perhaps you don't need it. Its interesting that theres much talk of late about how 93% of jobs are created by small businesses. Is Microsoft deliberately trying to drive away the small business person?? I would have thought that the small business demographic would be important. So, I will not upgrade my Office product, will not spend $500 with Microsoft. Not because I dont want to, but because I'm not 'big enough'. Right now I feel like I'm being abandoned yet again (Office Accounting) by the mighty Microsoft. Perhaps Open Office will suffice for my needs?? Or maybe Apple can help?? BCM: on ebay I saw offers of sellers who obviously needed just one or two licenses of ProPlus for themselves, got the minimum five through volume licensing and sell the surplus via ebay.Anonymous

We had done some integration to BCM via the Outlook object model in 2007... Is it possible to have similar integration in with the Outlook 2010 object model? Is it only the old objects or are new objects accessible also?Anonymous

One two of our computers we are getting an error when we try to initiate auto sync. "Business Contact Manager for Outlook could not complete your last action or actions. Pleas try again." On another computer it works just fine?? Two computers it is not working on one is XP one is Windows 7. The Computer it is working on is XP. In looking at the various posts from people having technical issues with BCM 2010 and considering my own hair pulling struggles to successfully get it working acceptably well in Outlook 2010 on Windows 7, without getting into details, it's clear there are a lot of bugs remaining in the software and wanted to know from MSFT whether a service release is forthcoming and if so, even a ballpark on timeframe. Weeks? Months? Sometime this year? We all know that schedules change and releases are always subject to delays so I'm not looking to hold you to anything but i think i speak on behalf of a lot of users (that are trying to stick it out with a product that has a lot of potential) when I say we would like something to look forward to.Anonymous

We have just upgraded out office to Office 2010 on Windows 7. We are trying to migrate our data from BCM 2003 and neither the Create/Backup/Restore nor the Migrate method works. We get an error in both cases. We ave run te consistncy check on the BCM 2003 database and there are no errors. We can export and import contacts and accounts but then we have no history or email links. If we try and export with te history then the export fails. Can anyone tell me if they have successfully migrated from BCM 2003 to BCM 2010?
