Invitation | FREE Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 ALM Tools Training

FREE Public Sector ALM Training Offering - Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 ALM Tools Training Event Series

Northwest Cadence invites you to join us for our upcoming Public Sector Training Event Series at no cost to you or your organization.
These live remotely-delivered training sessions include four 1-hour sessions and are co-funded by Microsoft and Northwest Cadence.
For more information, please email Rick.Flath@nwcadence.com

Session 1: Application Lifecycle Management in the Public Sector

The demand for transparency, accountability, reliability and quality from public sector software teams has never been greater.  In
this overview session, learn how Visual Studio 2010 provides support for robust and repeatable Application Lifecycle Management
(ALM) processes, from portfolio management and project planning to timely deployment to maintenance and back again.

Session 2: Introduction to Agile

Agile development, the delivery of value in small predictable increments, is now mainstream.  In this session, we’ll cover the ways in
which iterative delivery, just-in-time planning and design, and emergent architecture provide greater stability and more reliable
delivery than multi-year up-front project plans ever did – and are responsive when change inevitably occurs.  See how metrics and
reporting provide project transparency within formal governance and compliance structures.  Learn realistic, everyday practices to
empower your teams for true continuous improvement.

Session 3: Testing and Quality Best Practices

If your organization thinks testing is something you do to software after it’s been written, get ready to turn QA upside-
down!  Traditional software testing practices help uncover when you’ve built it wrong, but Acceptance Test-Driven Development
(ATDD) catches critical defects in requirements and business rules so you can avoid a greater risk: building the wrong thing.  Learn
how to document, prioritize and automate testing in every phase of the project lifecycle and break down communication barriers
between developers and testers for fast fixes and faster deliveries.

Session 4: Data Management, Security, and Risk Management

Data lies at the heart of nearly every IT project, and the demands upon data are growing: high availability, high performance,
knowledge sharing, analytics and data mining, disaster recovery, security, regulatory compliance.  Modern development teams have
adopted rigorous management practices and sophisticated tooling elsewhere in the application stack, but too often the critical
infrastructure work of DBAs and data programmers is sidelined and siloed.  Learn how to leverage the same robust code
management practices and tools the rest of the team is already using, and bring data professionals back into the fold.

To reserve your space in an upcoming series, please choose a date:
