We want to hear from you.

Every once in awhile, we reach out to the IT community to get an idea of what kinds of topics you’d like to see in our blog. AskCore covers a lot of stuff (setup, deployment, cluster, bitlocker, activation, Hyper-V, etc.) If there’s any content you think would be good material for us to put together for you, please leave feedback in the comments.

Thanks,

I agree some NTFS deep dives would be great.

Jeff,I'd love to see some blog posts that deep dive some of the best practices covered by the different BPA's.  Also, posts about "real world" management scenarios using some of the other products (a "cross-topic post" if you will) in the MS portfolio - Opalis, SCCM (and desired config mgmt), etc...Thanks!Rob

Can you explain the NTFS tree in some detail? Is a B-tree, a B*-tree or B+-tree used? How do you hop from index_root, index_allocation to index_record and file data?

This might be a bit silly, and maybe it's already been answered elsewhere, but every time I've installed the newest versions of Windows, I've wondered about that 100MB boot partition.  I've read a lot of speculation online, but I'd really like to know -- What's the real reasoning behind handling Windows booting this way?  What are the goals behind creating a separate boot partition? Thanks!

Some insights into the internals of Sysprep. The what, where, when and how of changes that Sysprep makes to a system. Extensibility, logs, Cleanup & Generalize pass differences. Why the Specialize pass takes longer than XP Mini-Setup. Why the images in install.wim cannot be deployed directly by Imagex, requiring setup.exe instead. Presumably the RTM build process at Microsoft is more comprehensive than a 'sysprep /generalize', but how so?Stuff about drivers. Registry keys written during a device install, and keys/values deleted during an uninstall. Difference between boot and non-boot critical drivers. Critical Device Database. Signing requirements, ranking algorithms, device trees, Driver Store. Difference between KMDF and UMDF drivers. Windows Update versus OEM supplied drivers. AllSignersEqual Group Policy. PersistAllDeviceInstalls setting for unattend.xml and it's potential issues.

I'd want to see some detailed information about Certificate Services as they seem to play an increasingly important role with almost all other infrastructure services..
