Will App Controller run in browsers other than IE8 and IE9?
A question that has come up a few times in the last few days is whether App Controller works in browsers other than Internet Explorer 8 and 9.
The answer is yes, with some caveats and requirements. You can view the App Controller supported system configurations here: https://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/appcontroller/gg696060.aspx
For other browsers such as Firefox, Chrome and Safari:
- The browser needs to be 32bit and support Silverlight 4. You can review the Silverlight FAQ to see what browsers are valid options https://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/faq/ (take note of which browsers function is which platforms)
- If you use a self-signed certificate, the certificate must be added to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store of all computers that will access the App Controller website. Some browsers will fail to display App Controller after the login screen if the certificate is not trusted. https://onlinehelp.microsoft.com/en-us/appcontroller/hh546551.aspx
- You need a browser that supports ActiveX to provide the console connection functionality to virtual machines
Another note is that Silverlight 5 will not work with the App Controller Beta. This will be resolved for the final release.
If you have any experiences with this, please send me your feedback.
Thanks
A.
