View a List of Application Pools (IIS 7)

You might have to view a list of application pools on your server for a variety of reasons. For example, you can determine whether you have an application pool that runs a certain version of the .NET Framework by looking at your list of application pools. If you notice performance problems with certain applications, you might want to determine how many applications run in a particular application pool.

To view a list of application pools
You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.
User Interface
To use the UI
Open IIS Manager. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7).
In the Connections pane, click Application Pools in the tree.
Command Line
To view a list of applications pools on the Web server, type the following at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
appcmd list apppool
To view a list of application pools on the Web server that have a specific setting, you can filter the list results by including criteria on which to filter the results of the command. To do this, use the following syntax:
**appcmd list apppool /attribute:**value
The variables attribute and value are the criteria on which you want to filter the results.
For example, to view a list of all application pools on the server that run .NET Framework version 2.0, filter the results by including the managedRuntimeVersion attribute and the value v2.0. To do this, type the following at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
appcmd list apppool /managedRuntimeVersion:v2.0
