View a Server Certificate (IIS 7)

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista

View a certificate to obtain detailed information about its properties. These properties include:

  • Who issued the certificate

  • To whom the certificate was issued

  • The valid date range of the certificate

  • Encryption algorithms

  • Trusted status

To view a certificate

You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI).

User Interface

To use the UI

  1. Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7).

  2. In Features View, double-click Server Certificates.

  3. Select a certificate and then click View in the Actions pane.

  4. On the Certificate property page, do one or more of the following:

    • Click the General tab to determine who issued the certificate, to whom it was issued, and its valid date range.

    • Click the Details tab to find information such as encryption algorithms, public key, and serial number.

    • Click the Certification Path tab to determine where the certificate is in the path up to the highest-level certificate (a certificate issued by either an internal or external certification authority), and whether the certificate is trusted.

  5. Click OK to close the Certificate property page.
