Il processo di trasformazione del modello di testo è costituito da due passaggi.Nel primo passaggio, il motore di trasformazione del modello di testo crea una classe denominata la classe di trasformazione generata.Nel secondo passaggio, il motore compila ed esegue la classe Transformation generata per produrre l'output di testo generato.
I processori di direttive funzionano aggiungendo codice alla classe della trasformazione generata.Chiamando le direttive da un modello di testo, il resto del codice scritto nel modello di testo dopo avere chiamato una direttiva può basarsi sulla funzionalità fornita da tale direttiva.È possibile scrivere processori di direttiva personalizzati per fornire funzionalità personalizzate ai modelli di testo.

Il motore di trasformazione del modello di testo conterrà un'istanza singleton di qualsiasi classe DirectiveProcessor obbligatoria.
DirectiveProcessor implementa una macchina a stati.
Ad esempio, se un modello di testo dispone di tre chiamate allo stesso processore di direttiva, il motore chiamerà i metodi seguenti secondo l'ordine:
