Creating, editing, copying, and deleting policies
Applies To: Forefront Client Security
The Client Security console provides the means to manage your policies. On the Policy Management tab, you can perform all tasks necessary for creating, modifying, and removing policies.
Note
When you work with policies, only one instance of the console should be open. Client Security does not support concurrent policy editing in more than one console at a time.
To create a policy
In the Client Security console, click the Policy Management tab.
On the Policy Management tab, click New.
On the General tab in the New Policy dialog box, type a name and, optionally, comments for the policy.
Continue modifying settings as needed.
After you finish creating the policy, click OK. The policy appears in the list of policies on the Policy Management tab.
To apply the new policy to client computers, you must deploy the policy. For information about deploying a policy, see Deploying and undeploying policies.
To edit a policy
In the Client Security console, click the Policy Management tab.
On the Policy Management tab, double-click the policy you want to edit. The Edit Policy dialog box appears.
Edit the policy settings as needed.
After you finish editing the policy, click OK.
To apply the changes to client computers, you must deploy the policy. If the policy is already deployed, you must deploy it again to ensure that the changes are applied to client computers. For information about deploying a policy, see Deploying and undeploying policies.
Copying a policy lets you create a new policy based on the settings you defined in another policy. This is a quick way of creating a new policy that is similar to an existing policy.
To copy a policy
In the Client Security console, click the Policy Management tab.
On the Policy Management tab, select the policy you want to copy, and then click Copy.
On the General tab in the New Policy dialog box, type a name and, optionally, comments for the policy.
Continue modifying settings as needed.
After you finish creating the policy, click OK. The policy appears in the list of policies on the Policy Management tab.
To apply the copied policy to client computers, you must deploy the policy. For information about deploying a policy, see Deploying and undeploying policies.
To rename a policy
Copy the policy and give the copied policy the new name.
Deploy the copied policy to the same targets as the old policy.
To delete a policy
In the Client Security console, click the Policy Management tab.
Note
It is recommended that you do not delete policies that are currently deployed. Undeploy a policy before deleting it. For information about undeploying a policy, see Deploying and undeploying policies.
On the Policy Management tab, select the policy you want to delete, and then click Delete. A confirmation dialog box appears.
Note
If the confirmation dialog box states that the policy is deployed, click Cancel, undeploy the policy, and then repeat this procedure.
In the confirmation dialog box, click Delete. Client Security deletes the policy.
