How to Specify Project Properties for a Waypoint

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

You use waypoint servers to stage Web content and business data across one or more hops in a network. When you create a project by using the New Project Wizard, the wizard defines a project on each server that is specified as a destination. For Web content projects, the project properties for a waypoint server and an endpoint server are similar. Commerce Server Staging (CSS) replicates the content onto these servers in the same manner.

However, for a business data project, the role assigned to a waypoint server must be set. The waypoint is neither a source nor a destination for business data. Therefore, you must clear the assignment for these options on a waypoint server.

Note

When you create business data projects using the New Project Wizard, and define routes that contain waypoints, the projects are created on the waypoint servers together with all properties configured correctly.

Follow these steps to set the project properties on a waypoint server for a business data project.

To specify business data project properties for a waypoint

  1. Create the business data project by using the New Project Wizard. Complete steps 1 through 11 that are defined in How to Create a Project for Staging Business Data.

  2. On the Specify Project Destinations page, click Add. Specify the waypoint server as a remote server.

  3. Continue with the remaining steps in How to Create a Project for Staging Business Data.

  4. Change the role assignment that is defined for the waypoint server(s).

    1. In the left pane, expand an endpoint server that is specified as a waypoint server for the project that you created in step 1, and then click Projects.

    2. In the right pane, right-click the desired project, and select Properties.

    3. In the Project tab, make sure that the check boxes for Source server and Destination server are cleared.

    4. (Optional). In the Notes text box, type a note that identifies this as a waypoint server.

    5. Click OK to apply the changes to the project.

    6. Repeat step 4a through 4e for each waypoint server that is defined in the project.
