WSUS 3.0 SP1 on Windows Update coming soon!

WSUS 3.0 SP1 will be available on Windows Update within the next few weeks. The package behavior is:

 

1. Upgrade all previous versions of WSUS starting with WSUS 2.0 to WSUS 3.0 RTM running on Windows 2003 SP1+  

2. All upgrades will require user interaction.

3. This service pack package will supersede WSUS 3.0 RTM packages. 

4. Block upgrades of all WSUS installation using remote SQL. This is now a manual upgrade process.

5. Do not support upgrading previous versions of WSUS running on Windows 2008.

6. System Center Essentials 1.0 RTM will not be upgraded to WSUS 3.0 SP1. This will be handled by a future release of System Center Essentials.

 

Note: “WSUS 2.0 SP1” and “WSUS 2.0 Client SelfUpdate Update for WSUS 2.0 SP1” packages will be expired. These updates are still available on the Download Center.

    We are still running WSUS 2.0 SP1. In the coming months we will be retiring the server it's on. I gather it will be business as usual for a while still (i.e. server can still synchronize and get updates, clients can pick up the updates). Any idea when WSUS 2.0 will retire?

    "Block upgrades of all WSUS installation using remote SQL.   This is now a manual upgrade process." I have a WSUS 3.0 installation using remote SQL.  I understand this is a "manual" upgrade process (MS makes the same statment on their site).  However, no one mentions what this manual process is (MS or otherwise).  Can anyone shed any light on the accepted process for upgrading WSUS 3.0 w/remote SQL to WSUS 3.0 SP1 w/remote SQL?  I can download the installer package directly from MS as opposed to WU, but I'd like to see some documentation on the manual upgrade process before I start running the update.

    Updating my previous question with an answer...I believe by manual, it is meant that you need to download the standalone SP1 installer and run it interactively for remote-SQL based installations (as opposed to updating silently via AU).  I downloaded it and was able to upgrade to SP1 without issue.

    I can downloads the installers packages directly from MS as opposeds to WU, but I'd like to see some documentations on the manual upgrades process before I starts running the updates thanks you very nice
