An OS is an OS is an OS

It makes me sick reading headlines like: "VMware Predicts Death To Operating Systems". What does everyone think VMware ESX is? It is an operating system (OS). A stripped down version of it but nevertheless an OS. It appears that VMware found out that they compete not only in virtualization technology but in the OS arena as well. Downplaying does not help, folks. Only being better than the competition gets sales figures up. And it is getting hotter out there, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server Virtualization are ante portas.

Granted, virtualization is a key topic in datacenters these days but let's not go overboard. And please stop pretending you won't need an OS in the future. Check out a definition of the term 'operating system'.
