Enterprise Library 'The Day After'

I can finally lift my head up. The day has finally arrived (as far as I know)… we are at zbb (zero bug bounce) and if nothing weird happens we will ship our bits to Avanade on Monday. What does this mean for the rest of the world? In 3 months we will RTW (release to the web). This is exciting news for everyone (or at least for me). Now that we have finished all the actual code and stabilized for this release, I can actually start posting a series of blogs so that everyone that is interested can be ready for what is coming.
So what is part of Enterprise Library 1.0? Glad you asked. The following is the list:

UPDATE: As TSHAK reminded me I forgot Cryptography

· Configuration

· Security

  • Profile
  •  Roles
  •  Authorization
  •  Authentication
  • Cryptography

· Logging & Instrumentation (EIF)

· Caching

· Exception Handling

· Data Access

Here is a picture of what things look like in V1 (the picture comes from the Architecture Guide):

Then if you talk about how one block works here is a picture:

Congrats... I can't wait to get the bits. I saw a presentation at VSLive about this (by Ron Jacobs) it rocks. Love the configuration UI.

I second asking for "any chance of getting the bits early", how about for MS partners?

    Why?

My current client hired me to improve their internal standards, frameworks etc. (or at the very least - put some in place) - and one of my first proposals was to take all the current Application Blocks, clean them up and turn them into something like an enterprise library. Then - I saw the "Coming Soon" page, and halted work - after all I hate to expend effort on something that will be replaced... (even though I am an hourly consultant)

Three months earlier to Avanade ... yet another example of Microsoft competing with their partners.

Just to let everyone know... we are not competing with our partner.. in fact we did the development with them closely (we all sat in the same room).

Very good picture the one about architecture, makes a clear definition of the "position" of the block.

Avanade's internal engineering department built an asset similar to Enterprise Library. We agreed to hand over relvant areas of the source code, give access to our top architect on the project, and as Scott mentioned work very closely with Microsoft to build Enterprise Library. This is why Avanade gets a period of time to beta test with their customers; Microsoft is not playing favorites here. Combining the expertise of the Patterns & Practices group at Microsoft with Avanade's experience with enterprise customers has led to an awesome asset that will definitely be worth the wait.
