Exchange Server 2007 Beta 2 and DVD Offerings

Exchange Server 2007 Beta 2 recently released to MSDN Subscriber Downloads, and you may have noticed that they’re fairly large files, with many approaching 1 GB in size.  And Exchange Server isn’t the only one: the recent Vista Betas and CTPs have been released as DVD images, and many future releases will also make their mark on DVD media.

As a result, MSDN subscribers that currently receive CD media will start to receive DVD media for these releases.  If you haven’t yet switched your subscription to DVD media, you may wish to consider doing so as it provides all of the same software you currently enjoy, along with far fewer discs to manage and maintain as part of your software library.

So, if you’ve held off making the switch, now’s the time!  Contact the MSDN Subscriptions Services Center for your country or region and Switch to DVD today!

MSDN Library – August 2006 Edition

To ensure a top quality release, the MSDN Library – August 2006 was delayed to the September 2006 shipment.   The Library CDs and DVD will be labeled ‘August’ in the September shipment, so they accurately reflect the product name during and after installation.

MapPoint 2006 European Maps Edition

We’ve already received several inquiries requesting the new MapPoint 2006 European Maps Edition and want you to know that we’re actively acquiring this software and anticipate making it available to you on MSDN Subscriber Downloads by the end of the month.  To receive notifications as products are posted, please subscribe to the MSDN Subscriber Downloads’ “New in Subscriber Downloads” RSS feed at https://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/.

Windows Server 2003 Product Keys

Several subscribers have contacted us after experiencing difficulty when entering product keys into the various Windows Server 2003 editions offered through MSDN Subscriptions.

Please remember that there can be different keys for the Standard and Enterprise Editions, x86 and x64 builds, and retail and Volume License versions.  Most keys can be found by looking on the Product Keys page from within MSDN Subscriber Downloads, with the exception being Volume License keys.  VL subscribers should contact their VL administrator to obtain a key for the VL bits (except for MSDN Academic Alliance members).  Also, please be aware that cross channel upgrades are not permitted.  For example, a Windows 2003 with Service Pack 1 retail installation cannot be upgraded to Windows Server 2003 R2 using Volume License media.  We hope this helps to address any questions that you may have run into.

Best regards,

Seth Adams

Why does MS still waste time shipping a CD subscription?  Like DVD drives are soo horribly expensive?

Might just be time to drop the option, if they can afford the subscription, they can afford the DVD drive.
