The marathon is upon me

I sit here in the third floor of Macy's in dowtown San Francisco while my wife Deanna searches for clothes that can only add to the heft of our suitcases. I am about to write to the president of Macy's, thanking them for the generous and strategic placement of comfortable chairs for guys like me (thanks also to HTC for making these wonderful phones with keyboards). Note: The third floor has great chairs, the fourth floor needs more.

I am not just here in SFO for shopping, rather my wife and I are here running the Nike Marathon in honor of our son Mason who has almost completed 3 years of treatment for Leukemia. Neither of us have ever been runners, but back in May we joined the "Team in Training" program that helped us prepare.

Unfortunately, I had pushed a little too hard, and was routinely running 4 miles a couple times a week, and 16-18 mile runs every weekend. The repetition on my right foot injured a tendon, and after an Xray and MRI, I was told to pause my running until I could get Orthotics (form fitting, prescriptive supports) for my shoes. Luckily. the doctor was able to rush order these, but I lost 4 weeks of training and have resigned myself to running the half marathon.

Off to Niketown for registration...

Good luck, half is better than none and there is always another marathon on the horizon. Let us know how it went!
