Windows 2003 Storage Server - joins the R2 fold
Windows 2003 Storage Server R2 is now available (from OEMs), completing the line-up of the Operating Systems that will run R2 (at least for now). We also announced the availability of software-enabled Storage Area Network (SAN) boot of Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 using Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) - giving you another boot option!
Also note Single-Instance Storage (SIS) is only available in with Windows Storage Server R2, one area you may noticed is this quote: "Internal Microsoft deployments show that Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, based on the Windows Server 2003 R2 operating system, can reduce data management costs and disk use by up to 50 percent through single-instance storage and allow users to easily find documents via a text-based file search.
