TFS and VS 2012 Update 1 Released

Since I’ve been using the Team Foundation Service more frequently I almost tend to forget to look for updates/bug fixes for my local TFS instance. If you’ve launched Visual Studio (VS) recently you’ve probably noticed that some updates are available, namely “Update 1.” Usually when an update in VS is made available there’s one for TFS and sure enough, “Update 1” is available for Team Foundation Server. Both can be downloaded here.

Some of the highlights regarding TFS are:

  • Agile Teams
    • Track project progress with a Kanban board
    • Assign tasks to user stories through drag and drop in the task board
    • Assign ownership through drag and drop in the people view of the task board
  • Web UI
    • Improved navigation and usability enhancements for Web Access for example: Web Access now remembers the state of the splitters, contains styling improvements, added several animations and contains next/previous work item navigation
    • Updated Team Foundation Server Web Access navigation styling
    • Show counts for links and attachments in Team Foundation Web Access
    • Drag and drop queries and query folders in Web Access
    • Expand and Collapse the left navigation pane in web access
  • Version Control
    • Usability improvements for Version Control
    • Version control supports paths longer than 260 characters

This is just a partial list so for the full list of updates, head on over to the Visual Studio ALM + Team Foundation Server Blog, Somasegar’s Blog or Brian Harry’s Blog.
