New book–Azure Security Infrastructure

Writing books is one of the most difficult things I’ve done. On the other hand, it’s also one of the easiest.

Difficult because it takes long hours alone with my own thoughts, wondering about the people I’m talking to and constantly needing to remind myself that the readers can’t “read my mind” and that I have to be very clear and explicit and not make assumptions about what you know and what you don’t know. It’s gets even harder because I question whether I’m making things too simple for the more sophisticated readers, or too difficult for those just ramping up. When I write books, I’m talking to everyone who reads it – yep, we’re in the same virtual room in my mind.

Easy because I love to share knowledge. The drive to teach, to inform, to enlighten cuts across all my life’s endeavors. One of the things that brings me the greatest satisfaction in life is when someone says to me “you really helped me understand how X works!” For me, that’s better than winning the Trifecta, or even the lottery!

For a time, I wrote 2-5 books a year for almost a decade. In the last few years, new responsibilities make it impossible to keep up that pace, but thanks to Yuri Diogenes who pushes me to keep writing, I usually am able to work on a book every year or so. And this year is one of those years!

Our book, Microsoft Security Infrastructure is now live!

I can tell you how great it is, how Yuri Diogenes and Deb Shinder really help raise the bar on the quality and usefulness of the book, and how honored we all are to have Mark Russinovich write the forward for our book, but I’m not going to do that.

What I am going to do is send you over the Microsoft Press Blog and they can tell you all those things and more.

Finally, I want to give a special shout-out to everyone in the Azure Security organization – all of you had influenced us in one way or another, sharing your insights, knowledge and often genius with us formally and informally. The people in Azure Security are the smartest, wisest, and most honorable and ethical group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know and work with. In short, they are truly the “good guys”.
