Uninstalling a Security Component
Updated: July 22, 2009
Applies To: Windows SBS 2008, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard
The Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange (FSE) security component can be uninstalled and no longer be registered and visible as a security component in the Windows SBS Console. If a third party malware and spam protection software is installed and can register itself with Windows SBS 2008, it is listed as a security component in the Windows SBS Console.
You can uninstall FSE in Programs and Features in Control Panel. Uninstalling FSE results in the following:
Spam protection for e-mail and Virus protection for e-mail remain on the Security tab, but there are no associated data or tasks.
FSE is removed from the Security assessment in the Network Essentials Summary on the Home page, and from all reports.
Exchange Server realtime anti-spam signature recovery is suspended.
