Assessing e-mail virus and spam protection status

You can assess the overall status of e-mail virus and spam protection on the Security tab. For more information about the status, click a security feature, and review the details pane.

Note

The statistics for scanned messages and rejected messages cover the activity that has been reported since the last time that FSE restarted.

You can also review the status of the network security features on the Reports tab. For information about reports, see “Understanding and Managing Reports in Windows Small Business Server 2008” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=131388).

Assessing the status of e-mail malware protection status

Status

Description

OK

The FSE service is enabled, the scan engine signatures are up-to-date, and there are no critical alerts.

Warning

One or more of the following is true:

  • Two or more scan engines failed to synchronize for at least 3 days.

  • The FSE subscription for updates expires in less than 30 days.

Critical

One or more of the following are true:

  • One or more scan engines failed to synchronize for more than 7 days.

  • The FSE service is not enabled.

  • The FSE subscription for updates is expired.

Spam protection in Exchange Server 2007 uses keyword filtering tools to identify unwanted e-mail messages by analyzing the contents of the message body.

Critical

One or more of the following are true:

  • The Connection Filtering Agent is not enabled.

  • The Content Filter Agent is not enabled.

  • The Recipient Filter Agent is not enabled.

  • The Sender ID Agent is not enabled.
