Troubleshoot the Fax service

A fax has the wrong routing destination
Problem If you open Windows Fax and Scan and find a fax in the Inbox that does not show the proper routing destination, the routing method may fail.
Solution Repair the Fax service, and then configure it.
To repair the Fax service
Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Windows SBS Console (Advanced Mode) to open the Windows SBS 2008 console in Advanced mode.
On the User Account Control page, click Continue.
Click the Network tab, and then click Devices.
In the Tasks pane, click Repair the Fax service.
To configure the Fax service
Open the Windows SBS 2008 console.
On the User Account Control page, click Continue.
Click the fax device that you want to configure, and then, in the Tasks pane, click Configure the Fax service.
Follow the steps to finish the wizard.
You cannot start the Fax service because of a routing issue in Windows SharePoint Services
Problem You cannot start the Fax service because you cannot change the fax routing destination in Windows SharePoint Services.
Solution Reinstall the fax routing extension for Windows SharePoint Services.
To reinstall the fax routing extension for Windows SharePoint Services
Click Start, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
At the command prompt, type C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\installUtil.exe “C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\\FaxSPRouteSnapin.dll”, and then press ENTER.
If the issue is not resolved, contact Microsoft Product Support.
The Fax service did not automatically start after installing the Fax Service role
Problem You installed the Fax service role in your Windows SBS 2008 network, but the service did not start automatically.
Solution Start the Fax service, and then configure it.
Note
To start the Fax service, you must have a fax device and device driver.
To start the Fax service
Open the Windows SBS 2008 console.
On the User Account Control page, click Continue.
Click the Network tab, and then click Devices.
In the Tasks pane, click Start the Fax service.
If you are prompted to restart the computer or if the error persists, restart the computer before you configure the Fax service.
To configure the Fax service
Open the Windows SBS 2008 console.
On the User Account Control page, click Continue.
Click the Network tab, and then click Devices.
Click the fax device that you want to configure, and then, in the Tasks pane, click Configure the Fax service.
Follow the steps to finish the wizard.
You no longer want to use the Fax service
Problem You no longer want to use the Fax service.
Solution Uninstall the Fax service by completing the Uninstall the Fax Service task.
To uninstall the Fax service
Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Windows SBS Console (Advanced Mode) to open the Windows SBS 2008 console in Advanced mode.
On the User Account Control page, click Continue.
Click the Network tab, and then click Devices.
In the Tasks pane, click Uninstall the Fax service.
You may need to restart your server after the Fax service is uninstalled.
