How do I start the installation?
Applies To: Windows SBS 2008
Before you start installing Windows SBS 2008, verify that the network adapter on the server is connected to the local area network adapter on the router.
Important
If you install Windows SBS 2008 on an existing server, the current installation is overwritten.
To start a new installation
Turn on the server where you want to install Windows SBS 2008.
Insert Windows SBS 2008 DVD1 in the DVD drive. If you see a message asking if you want to boot from a CD or DVD, press any key to do so.
Note
If the server does not boot from the DVD, restart the computer and check the BIOS Setup to ensure that DVD-ROM is listed first in the boot sequence. For more information about how to change the BIOS Setup boot sequence, see your hardware manufacturer's documentation.
- For more information about connecting your server and completing the installation, see the Getting Started poster, which is included with the product packaging.
If you have an existing Windows SBS network
If you have an existing Windows SBS 2003 network, you can install Windows SBS 2008 in Migration Mode on a new server, and then migrate your data to the new server.
An in-place upgrade of Windows SBS 2003 is not supported because Windows SBS 2003 is a 32-bit architecture. Windows SBS 2008 is a 64-bit architecture.
For instructions about how to migrate an existing client/server network to Windows SBS 2008, see the “Windows Small Business Server 2008 Migration Guide” at the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=104281).
