Event ID 2505 — Shared Folders (SMB) Server Configuration

The Server Message Block (SMB) protocol is what Windows uses to share files, printers, serial ports, and communicate this information between computers. The service must be configured correctly for the server to properly manage shared resources.

Resolve
Review the system log file
The server could not establish a listening endpoint on the transport listed in the event. The status code returned from the underlying transport is available in the System event log. This status code may explain why this operation failed.
To review the system log file for system events:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.
- In the navigation pane, find the System event log.
- In the Actions pane, click Filter current log...
- In the Filter Current Log dialog box, select the Filter tab and then select Server from the Event Sources drop-down.
- Review the most recent events to determine the cause of the issue. In addition to these, you should also review the other system events to determine if a related issue may be the cause of the error.
- If you cannot resolve the issue based on the information in the event log, try restarting the computer.
Verify
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To verify SMB configuration settings:
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click to select the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanserver\Parameters
- Verify that the correct parameters are present and contain the correct values.
