Enable or prevent receipt of files sent over an infrared link

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

  1. Open Wireless Link in Control Panel.

  2. On the Infrared tab, do one of the following:

    • To enable your computer to receive files from others, select the Allow others to send files to your computer using infrared communications check box. This check box is selected by default.

    • To prevent your computer from receiving files from others, clear the Allow others to send files to your computer using infrared communications check box.

Notes

  • Performing this task does not require you to have administrative credentials. Therefore, as a security best practice, consider performing this task as a user without administrative credentials.

  • To open a Control Panel item, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.

  • In the Windows Server 2003 family, only Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, supports infrared networking.

  • The Wireless Link icon appears in Control Panel only if an infrared device is already installed on your computer.

  • If you clear the Allow others to send files to your computer using infrared communications check box, you can still send files to other computers by using Wireless Link.
