Planning to Restructure Active Directory Domains Between Forests

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

Completing the necessary planning tasks before you begin your migration enables you to ensure that users can continue to log on to the network and access resources during the migration. Planning includes defining the accounts and resources to be migrated, creating a test plan, and creating a rollback plan for use in the event that the migration fails. It also includes planning for user profile migration, establishing administrative procedures, and creating an end-user communication plan. To prepare for the restructuring process, the Active Directory deployment team must be sure to obtain the necessary design information from the Active Directory design team.

Figure 11.2 shows the steps involved in planning to restructure Windows Server 2003 domains between forests.
