Enable IGMP router and IGMP proxy mode

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To enable IGMP router and IGMP proxy mode

  1. Open Routing and Remote Access.

  2. In the console tree, click IGMP.

    Where?

    • Routing and Remote Access/server name/IP Routing/IGMP
  3. Right-click IGMP, and then click New Interface.

  4. In Interfaces, click the interface you want to enable, and then click OK.

  5. In the General dialog box, verify that the Enable IGMP check box is selected.

  6. Under Mode, do one of the following:

    • To enable IGMP router mode, click IGMP router.

    • To enable IGMP proxy mode, click IGMP proxy.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group. As a security best practice, consider using the Run As command rather than logging on with administrative credentials. If you have logged on with administrative credentials, you can also open Routing and Remote Access by clicking Start, clicking Control Panel, double-clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Routing and Remote Access. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.

  • You can only enable IGMP proxy mode on a single interface.

  • By default, IGMP protocol version 3 is selected. To change the IGMP protocol version, select a different version when configuring a new interface for IGMP, or change the version an interface uses by right-clicking the interface and selecting Properties.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
