Manage service definitions for ICF or ICS

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To manage service definitions for ICF or ICS

  1. Open Network Connections.

  2. Right-click the shared Internet connection or the Internet connection on which Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) or Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is enabled, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Advanced tab, click Settings.

  4. On the Services tab, do one of the following:

    • If you want to enable a service, under Services select the check box next to service that you want to enable, and then enter the required information.

    • If you want to add a service definition, click Add, and then enter the required information.

    • If you want to edit a service definition, click the service that you want to edit, click Edit, and then change the appropriate information.

    • If you want to delete a service definition, click the service that you want to delete, and then click Delete.

Caution

  • This feature is intended for advanced users. When you add or edit a service definition, you create a port mapping that can expose your network to the Internet. For more information about service definitions, see Related Topics.

Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure.

  • To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.

  • Before you can add, edit, or delete service definitions, you must enable ICF, ICS, or both.

  • You can obtain the correct configuration values for the TCP or UDP port number from the service's documentation or Web site.

  • No two service definitions can use the same port numbers simultaneously.

  • For service definitions that are preconfigured, you can edit only the field that is labeled Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network.

  • For service definitions that you have added, you can edit only the fields that are labeled Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network, External Port number for this service, and Internal Port number for this service.

  • You can delete only the service definitions that you have added. You cannot delete service definitions that are preconfigured.

  • Internet Connection Sharing and Network Bridge are not included in Windows Server 2003, Web Edition; Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition; and the Itanium-based versions of the original release of the Windows Server 2003 operating systems.

  • Internet Connection Firewall is included only in the original releases of Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, and Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition.

  • This topic applies only to product features available in the original release of Windows Server 2003.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
