Resolve system resource problems using SAC

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To resolve system resource problems using SAC

  • Use the T command in Special Administration Console (SAC) to view the processes that are running on the remote computer, the amount of CPU time they have consumed, and the amount of memory they are using. See "Task list headings" in Related Topics for more information on analyzing the output from the T command.

  • Use the R and L SAC commands to modify the priority of any processes that might be preventing the use of in-band tools on the remote computer.

  • Use the K SAC command to end a process that is causing a problem on the remote computer.

  • If the problem persists, or if you do not know which process is causing the problem, use the restart SAC command to restart the remote computer.

Notes

  • Before you use SAC to resolve a system resource problem, first try using in-band tools. Use SAC only if using in-band tools fails to resolve the problem.

  • You might be able to determine which processes are consuming the most resources by comparing two consecutive task lists.
