Use DHCP client alternate configuration

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To use DHCP client alternate configuration

  1. Open Network Connections.

  2. Right-click the network connection that you want to configure, and then click Properties. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box appears.

  3. On the General tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box appears.

  4. On the General tab, click Obtain an IP address automatically.

  5. Click the Alternate Configuration tab, and then click User configured.

  6. In IP address and Subnet mask, type an IP address and subnet mask.

  7. You can perform any of the following optional tasks:

    • In Default gateway, type the default gateway address.

    • In Preferred DNS server, type the primary Domain Name Service (DNS) server address.

    • In Alternate DNS server, type the secondary DNS server address.

    • In Preferred WINS server, type the primary Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) server address.

    • In Alternate WINS server, type the secondary WINS server address.

Note

  • To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
