HPC Cluster Manager Performs Slowly on a Remote Client

Updated: May 2011

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008, Windows HPC Server 2008 R2

HPC Cluster Manager may perform slowly on a client computer that connects over a slow network connection to the head node of a large cluster. For example, in Node Management, in the Navigation Pane, when you click Nodes, the list of nodes may take several minutes to appear.

Workaround

As a best practice when administering a large Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 or Windows HPC Server 2008 cluster over a slow network connection, do not run HPC Cluster Manager on a remote client computer. Instead, use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to the head node from the remote computer. Then, after you connect to the head node using Remote Desktop Connection, open HPC Cluster Manager.
