Event 1073 - Certificate Filtering

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Vista

Windows® Internet Explorer® 8 uses certificate filtering to automatically select the appropriate certificate for client authentication and to remove certificates that are likely to be rejected by the server. For example, an explicitly non-trusted certificate, or a certificate that is not associated with a private key will not appear in the list.

When Is This Event Logged?

This event is logged when a Web site attempts to access a security-enabled resource that requires certificate-based authentication.

Remediation

You can modify the certificate filtering to use the old certificate selection logic, by setting the following named registry value:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_CLIENTAUTHCERTFILTER\iexplore.exe=0x0000002
