Save a Job or Task to a File

Applies To: Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2, Microsoft HPC Pack 2012, Microsoft HPC Pack 2012 R2

In HPC Cluster Manager, you can save a new or previously submitted job or task. After you define a job or a task, you can export the job or task specifications to an XML file. This allows you to preserve a job or task as a pattern for future submissions. When you create a new job from an XML description file, or add a task to a job from an XML task file, you can modify any of the job or task properties before submission.

You can use the following procedures to save a job or task using HPC Cluster Manager.

Note

To complete this procedure, you must be the job owner or a cluster administrator.

To save a submitted job as a description file

  1. In Job Management, in the Navigation Pane, click All Jobs.

  2. In the job list, right-click a job, then click Export Job.

  3. Enter a name for the XML file when prompted.

    Note

While the description file name and the job name can be the same, they are separate entities. This allows you to assign a specific name to a job and a generic name to the description file.

To save a submitted task as a task file

  1. In Job Management, in the Navigation Pane, click All Jobs.

  2. In the job list, click a job. The list of tasks for that job appears in the Detail Pane.

  3. Right-click a task, then click Export Task.

  4. Enter a name for the XML file when prompted.

    Note

While the description file name and the task name can be the same, they are separate entities. This allows you to assign a specific name to a task and a generic name to the description file.

Additional considerations

  • In the New Job dialog box, you can save a job before submitting it by clicking Save Job as. You can also save a job that is partially created for later completion. You can also save individual tasks to a file before submitting the job (in Edit Tasks, click a task, then click Export to File).

  • You can also create a new job based on the property settings of a previously submitted job by making a copy of the job, rather than saving it to a description file. For more information, see Copy a Job or Task.
