WindowsInfo XML Schema

The WindowsInfo XML schema contains information with which the operating system defines display actions for the device that is specified in the device metadata package. These actions include the following:

  • Whether the device icon file is displayed when the device is in a disconnected state, such as when the user removes the device.

  • Whether a device stage user interface appears when the device transitions from a disconnected state to a connected state, such as when the user plugs in the device.

  • Whether a device stage user interface is started when the user double-clicks the device icon that appears in either Devices and Printers or in File Explorer.

  • The LaunchApplicationOnDeviceConnect element specifies an application that should appear as the recommended AutoPlay action when the device is connected. Either a desktop application may be specified using the DestopAutoplayHandler element, or a Windows Store app can be specified using the AutoplayHandler element.

A device metadata package must contain only one WindowsInfo XML document.

Note   The XML document must be saved by using UTF-8 encoding.

For the complete definition of the WindowsInfo XML schema, see WindowsInfo XML Schema Definition.

For information about the elements defined by the WindowsInfo XML schema, see WindowsInfo XML Elements.
