Testing an IPv6 Connection by Using the Ping Command (Windows CE 5.0)

Send Feedback

You can diagnose the network for a specific destination by using the ping command.

To test an IPv6 connection by using the ping command

  1. To obtain the IPv6 configuration for a computer, at a command prompt, type either ipconfig /all, or ipv6 if, and then press ENTER.

  2. Ping the loopback address by typing ping ::1.

If the ping command fails, verify that the ::1 address is assigned to the interface named Loopback Pseudo-Interface.

  3. Ping a link-local IPv6 address of the computer by typing ping Address%ScopeID, where Address is the link-local address and ScopeID is the interface index for the interface to which the link-local address is assigned. A link-local address begins with FE80.

If the ping command fails, verify the address and interface index.

  4. Ping the link-local address of another host on your link (also known as a subnet) by typing ping Address%ScopeID, where Address is the link-local address of the other host and ScopeID is the interface index for the interface from which you want to send the ping packets.

If the ping command fails, verify the link-local address of the other host and the scope ID.
