Servers (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/6/2010

This section provides links to topics that contain information about server technologies and services that are supported in Windows Embedded CE.

In This Section

  • Services.exe
Provides information about Services.exe, which is a process that supplements the Device.exe process. Running services in Services.exe decreases the likelihood of a system failure in the event of a service crash. Services.exe also provides enhanced loading capabilities such as support for starting, pausing, and stopping services.

  • File Server
Provides information about File Server. File Server enables clients to access files and other resources over the network.

  • FTP Server
Provides information about FTP Server. FTP Server can copy files to and from remote computer systems over a network using TCP/IP.
  • Message Queuing
Provides information about Message Queuing. Message Queuing (MSMQ) enables applications running at different times to communicate across heterogeneous networks and systems that may be unreliable or temporarily offline. In addition to the TCP-based protocol, MSMQ includes the following enhancements:

    • Allows you to specify HTTP as the transport protocol for messages.
    • Provides an XML-based SOAP extension that defines a reliable end-to-end messaging protocol.
  • Object Exchange Protocol
Provides a compact binary protocol that works with Bluetooth and IrDA to enable a wide range of devices to exchange data in a simple and efficient manner, such as getting business card information or pushing a file to another device.
  • Parental Controls
Provides information about parental controls. Parental controls allow administrators of private networks to create rules to block objectionable Web sites, which prevents specific users from accessing the content.
  • Print Server
Provides information about Print Server. Print Server enables you to share and access printers over the network. Print Server uses the Common Internet File System (CIFS).
  • RAS Server/PPTP Server (Incoming)
Provides information about RAS Server. RAS makes it possible to connect a remote client computer to a network server over a wide area network (WAN) link or a virtual private network (VPN). A device can function as a RAS server that allows clients to connect to that device by using a WAN connection.
  • Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP)
Provides information about SNTP. SNTP synchronizes the system time on a computer with that of a server that has been synchronized by a reference source such as a radio, satellite receiver, or modem.
  • Telnet Server
Provides information about Telnet Server. The sample Telnet Server included in Windows Embedded CE can be installed on a Windows Embedded CE–based device to allow remote administration through a standard Telnet client.
  • Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
Provides information about UPnP support in Windows Embedded CE. This technology provides an architectural framework for creating self-configuring, self-describing devices and services.
  • Web Proxy
Provides information about Web Proxy. Web Proxy provides a service for filtering HTTP requests and responses. It also optionally includes a Parental Controls filter, which enables parents to block objectionable Web sites, thereby preventing the child from accessing the content.
  • Web Server (HTTPD)
Provides information about Web Server, which enables you to monitor, configure, and remotely control a device or computer through the use of a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server. Web Server provides this service for network printers, scanners, and other shared equipment.
  • Web Services on Devices
Applies to Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2

Provides information about Web Service on Devices API (WSDAPI). WSDAPI allows a client to discover and access a remote device and its associated services across a network.

  • Networking - Wireless
Provides links to other topics that contain information about Wireless technologies supported in Windows Embedded CE.
  • Networking - Remote
Provides links to topics that contain information about Remote technologies supported in Windows Embedded CE.
  • Networking - Core
Provides links to topics that contain information about networking technologies supported in Windows Embedded CE.
