The Windows CE 5.0 Networked Media Device Feature Pack contains support for the protocols and file formats needed to create UPnP-aware networked media devices. The following diagram shows the relationship of the Windows CE Elements needed to create a Networked Media Device.

  • Networked Media Device Sample Application
    The Windows CE 5.0 Networked Media Device Feature Pack contains a sample user interface library and as part of a simple networked media device application. These samples are described in this section.
  • Windows Media Connect Support
    Windows Media Connect (WMC) is Microsoft's UPnP compatible media server. It supports Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) for Network Devices.
  • Media Query Engine
    Describes the function and structure of the Media Query Engine (MQE), which allows your Networked Media Device (NMD) to connect with UPnP media servers such as Windows Media Connect.
  • Windows Media DRM for Network Devices
    Windows Media digital rights management (DRM) is designed to protect and securely deliver content for playback on a portable or network device. DRM is supported on the media server side by WMC.

    Describes additional streaming support for MPEG and AVI files provided by this feature pack.
  • S/PDIF multi-channel support
    Describes how to implement true multi-channel surround-sound over S/PDIF.
  • Virtual Surround Sound Support
    Describes how to encode multi-channel surround-sound for stereo transmission to receivers with Dolby Pro Logic® support.
  • Interlaced Video Support
    Describes the support for interlaced video added by the Windows CE 5.0 Networked Media Device Feature Pack.
