Getting and Installing Spec Explorer

Getting the Latest Version of Spec Explorer

The latest version of Spec Explorer is available from the Visual Studio Gallery page, Spec Explorer 2010 Visual Studio Power Tool.

Installation Notes

  1. Before downloading and installing Spec Explorer, it is recommended that you read the Release Notes for the latest version.

  2. Always close all instances of Visual Studio before installing Spec Explorer. Always uninstall Spec Explorer before attempting to upgrade or reinstall Spec Explorer.

  3. To install Spec Explorer, run the SpecExplorerVS2010.msi file. The installation works on a pre-installed Visual Studio 2010 (RTM or later). It will not run on Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 or Beta 2, Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio Integrated Shells, or Visual Studio Isolated Shells. A sign of installation success--and of the correct version of Visual Studio--is if a Spec Explorer menu is available on the main Visual Studio menu bar.

  4. The Spec Explorer installation directory is %VSInstallDir%\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft\Spec Explorer 2010\3.6\.

System Requirements

The following are minimum system requirements for Spec Explorer installation:
