Working with search folders by using the EWS Managed API 2.0

You can use the Microsoft Exchange Web Services (EWS) Managed API to manage search folders. Search folders are folders that contain the results of a query against items in an Exchange mailbox. Search folder contents are defined by a set of restrictions, or a search filter, that is applied to the folder. The search filter is associated with a search folder that resides in an Exchange mailbox. The search is run when the search folder is created and when changes are made to the folder or folders that the search folder targets.

The items that appear in search folders are items that occur in the target folders that satisfy the defined search criteria. The items can be viewed in the search folder but continue to exist in the target folder; they are not copied or moved into the search folder. Therefore, actions, such as reply, move, or delete, that are performed on items that appear in search folders are performed on the items in the target folder.
