Microsoft Exchange Server 2007

Last modified: May 23, 2014

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007

Exchange Server 2007 provides a rich environment for messaging and collaborative application development. By closely integrating with Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 operating system core services such as Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and the Active Directory directory service, and Internet Information Services (IIS), Exchange 2007 simplifies application development, deployment, and management, and helps guarantee a faster return on your development investment. Exchange 2007 sets a new benchmark for low total cost of ownership (TCO) by helping your information technology (IT) staff to do more with less through improved management tools.

If you’re working with the EWS Managed API or EWS, note that the EWS schemas are backward– and forward–compatible. If you create an application that targets Exchange Server 2007 SP1, for example, your application will also work against a later schema version, such as Exchange Server 2013 SP1, as well as Exchange Online or Exchange Online as part of Office 365. And because the Exchange 2007 SP1 schema contains almost all the core functionality for working with items and folders in the Exchange store, the core content for EWS in Exchange Online and Exchange 2013 applies to earlier versions as well. You can find a list of EWS features added in each release of Exchange in the Developer roadmap for Exchange.
